Flora and fauna have had a huge impact on Katie’s development as an artist and, as such, is a central theme throughout her work. She enjoys painting the fruits of the season and often goes foraging in the areas of her environment for her next subjects. She adores studying small, seemingly insignificant scenes alongside her larger, more composed pieces as she strives to search for the divine through the everyday, the transcendent in the ordinary.
Katie relishes moments of peace and quiet in her daily life which has extended to her paintings. Creating pleasing color and design harmonies from her subject is one of Katie’s favorite things to explore in her work. She is constantly referring to great masters such as Emile Friant, Henri Fantin-Latour, Jules Bastien-Lepage, Rembrandt van Rijn, Emil Carlsen, and many, many more for inspiration and guidance.
