David G. Hines

Vincent Van Gogh once wrote “I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day.”  Like “Starry Night's” famed creator, California realist painter David Hines turns the dichotomous nature of night - its simultaneous familiarity and mystery - into intriguing visual wonderment.  With a painting technique that is exquisitely detailed, subtle variations of dark hue and solitary glints of distant light, Hines activates remembered moments of nocturnal solitude that seem suspenseful, perhaps voyeuristic, but always engaging.   Credit:  Ken Marvel
