Susan Manchester Works Biography

Susan Manchester

A magnetic resonance with drawing is in her genetic architecture. The very sound of the word “drawing” elevates her pulse. At an early age, she was sure her artistic endeavor was to remain in the many black & white realms of drawing & printmaking. Her education included a year of studies abroad in Florence, Italy at the Accademia di Belle Arti, with permission to study Renaissance artists’ drawings and prints at Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe degli Ufizzi.  In her printmaking classes, she had the rare good fortune of studying etching with the distinguished visiting Maestro, Giorgio Morandi.

After having studied and worked in San Francisco, Susan moved to the Monterey Peninsula. She continued to make drawings and prints while enjoying employment in the fields of architecture, scientific (botanical) drawing, graphic design and teaching. Along with her travels, these experiences animated her delight, vitality, deep curiosity and dedication to making art.  She has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and her work is held in many private as well as institutional collections.  Susan has maintained a studio in Monterey, California for twenty-five years.
