Pareidolia.  I dont think in terms of specific explanations in painting and my paintings are not preconceived. They inhabit their own cosmos and attempts to decant their essence are vexing. I dont want to limit the paintings to any one interpretation. Visually, Im interested in the edges of things in nature and painting, where one color cozies up to another and where a shape ends and another begins.  In a formal sense, Im attracted to colors that are hard to describe and forms that seem to relate to each other in a "Rube Goldberg" arrangement and are enigmatic. Frequently when the painting is complete, I find hints of landscape, interior or figure. Although there are no stories, this faint murmur of narrative is suggested by that which is "found" by our need to discover patterns and objects in nature; like a lion in the stars or a bunny in the clouds. In my work the translucent layers of oil paint paired with cold wax and resin, provide a nonspecific or ambiguous discovery of forms.
