Pat Mahony Works Biography
Artist Statement
I have been painting landscapes for more than 30 years. I began by painting urban scenes. In 1988 I moved to a house on the Sacramento River. I immediately began to try to capture the river landscapes and local farmland that was visible from my studio.
I was influenced greatly by the changing seasons and light. It was during this time that I began to experiment with the transitional characteristics of illumination.
My landscapes are a compilation of visual and emotional memories of the vistas I have seen. I do not so much paint the image in question, but rather render its essence on the canvas as if it were a feeling or recollection that has been developed through multiple exposures and observations.
My ultimate goal is to create a lush, abstracted view of the subject matter that creates a perfect balance of light and dark.
